During the last
thirty or forty years there has been a great renewal of interest
in the folktraditions of Western Europe. As a direct result,
the bodhran emerged from the obscurity of a folk custom in remote
parts of Ireland. This traditional Irish hand drum with its distinctive
soft deep tone has now become a prominent part of Irish folk
music.
