The practice of meditation has occurred worldwide since ancient times. The Hindus perfected the art of sacred chanting that dates back at least 3,000 years and is probably the world's oldest continuous vocal tradition.

Of all the sacred "Mantras", there is none considered more exalted than the Gayatri . A prayer for spiritual and meditative stimulation, it is addressed to the divine life-giver as supreme God, symbolised in the Sun. The Gayatri is thus not only the symbol of light but light itself. A "mantra" signifies the sacred formula or verse, the incantation of which leads to spiritual liberation and enrichment of daily life. According to Hindu tradition, the world has come into existence through the union of Mind "(manas)" with word "Vac." The "mantra" therefore has not only sound and meaning, but also energy. To acquire this energy of the Word, one has to grasp the message as well as the vibrations of the "mantra". Properly chanted, it leads one to the harmony and peace that result when forces of the Divine, the Human and the Cosmic lock embrace.

The classical raags based music and instruments such as the Indian bamboo flute and the Sitar used in this album, explore the full gamut of feeling, emotion, passion, commitment and transcendence that a human being can experience during a day's cycle. This is aptly fitting, since a student is advised to recite the Gayatri at the dawn of the rising sun and at dusk until he catches a glimpse of the starry sky.
