How Indigo Eye formed
When Gavin first heard his friend, Brighton based professional percussionist Satin Singh, playing tabla he was moved and inspired at the sophistication of these drums. Satin became Gavin’s tabla teacher from that day.

On the other side of Brighton, Garima was studying sitar with an Indian teacher, having been immersed in Indian culture and music for many years previously. Gavin and Garima began practising together for long hours and started playing at events and parties around Brighton.

Deciding they'd like to expand, Gavin's friend Simon, who had already produced two successful meditation CDs, was invited to join them for some improvisation. That day 'Out Of The Clouds' soundtrack was born!

After much brainstorming the band name Indigo Eye emerged - a word play on the Indie theme and the third eye or 6th chakra.

After more gigs, the band wanted to expand further so sound healer and classically trained musician Sheila joined with her extensive collection of gongs. Sheila also resurrected her very precious old violin, unused since playing in a professional orchestra many years before.

The band then wanted a singer so Helen, another friend of Gavin's, came for a jam - a significant change from her usual choral singing! She was new to Sanskrit chants and ragas but formed words and melodies with ease and inspiration. Helen also introduced small ethnic instruments to the band. She plays with feeling, the haunting ocarina, African kalimba, and Native Indian flute.

The band's policy has always been a holistic and democratic one with each person recognised as an invaluable part of the whole. Their music has been described as ‘healing’, an ‘inner journey’, and ‘sounds for yoga and relaxation’.

Each of Indigo Eye’s musical creations is entirely unique and original and the CD 'Out Of The Clouds', which was recorded in Simon's studio, is a collaboration of their diverse musical prowess, with their intention being to create an oasis of calmness and beauty in our hectic world.
