TIMBA : A conical drum played with the hand or hand and light stick, it is a cross between a surdo and a djembe and is a great utility drum, it can be played as a conger - mounted in a stand, held in a sling and played with the hands, played sitting down across the knee with the spare hand providing a counter rhythm on the wood. Sometimes a double head is put on the drum to dampen the sound. |
