The Udu pot is a traditional clay fired percussion instrument which originated from the ancient Ibo Tribe in Nigeria. The name 'udu' comes from the Ibo Tribal Language and means both pottery and peace.

It owes its design primarily to the water vessels carried by the women on their heads, from which it descended over thousands of years. It came to be an important part of tribal religious ceremonies in Nigeria.

The Udu combines the unique sound of 'aqua-resonance' with a warm earthy vibration, producing a seamless fusion of deep and high ambient tones.

Beautiful to hold and touch, calming and soothing to the eye the Udu pot can take you to a meditative state, producing feelings of peace and well being.

The pot can easily be adapted for Indian Tabla techniques, by use of the palms, fingertips, fingernails, flicking and tapping.

Self-expression is easily achieved through exploring the endless possibilities of sound and rhythm.

Udu pots are hand crafted by
Gavin Bates of Earth Vibe Music.
